Geodetic Surveyor, LINZ New Zealand
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is the primary national government geospatial agency managing maps, charts, land records, and the national geodetic reference system. Paula Gentle is one of the geodetic “shepherds” of the reference infrastructure of physical survey marks and trig beacons. New Zealand is quite tectonically active, and part of Paula’s work has been to evaluate the effects on the reference infrastructure of the massive 2009 earthquakes, for example.
Paula enjoys the travel and adventure of the job, helicoptering into remote places and learning new technologies. She earned her bachelor of surveying degree from the University of Otago and is active in youth leadership organizations.
