Onwuzuligbo Chukwubueze Uzochukwu – Lecturer, Nnamdi Azikiwe University – Nigeria
“Chuks,” as he is known by friends and colleagues, has a passion for geomatics, but even more so he wishes to motivate, encourage, and train the youth in the geospatial industry. Growth in Nigeria and the entire continent of Africa has been substantial, and so are the needs for geospatial education and professional services.
After obtaining his West African high school certification in 2003, he proceeded to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State Nigeria to pursue a bachelor’s degree in surveying and geoinformatics (completed in 2008). Employed by the University in 2010 as a graduate assistant (after one year mandatory Youth Service Corp duty), he served at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. His masters in surveying and geoinformatics was completed in 2012, and he has since commenced a PhD program in geodesy and geodynamics. A registered (licensed) surveyor, Chuks has supervised a total of nine undergraduate projects and has executed several survey projects for the university and other clients. He is also a mapping consultant. Chuks is married with a young son.
It has been an honor to get to know some of the dynamic young professionals from all over the world like Chuks. It might be of great benefit for the surveying and geospatial professions in North America to invite such folks as guest speakers and lecturers to our professional association functions. Such fine young professionals and educators working and teaching in climates of such rapid growth would undoubtedly have wonderful insights to share.
