While the folks in Kalispell, Montana did not experience a total eclipse, they turned it into an exciting event nonetheless. Flathead Valley Community College promoted it as a community event and passed out free viewing glasses as the eclipse was starting.
David L. Dorsett, PLS, surveying instructor and surveying department head at the college, had already planned on setting up one of the survey program’s total stations with a solar filter, so as an offshoot to the college’s event he let the public take turns viewing the eclipse through the instrument.
